"These words I speak to you are not incidental additions to your life, homeowner improvements to your standard of living. They are foundational words, words to build a life on. If you work these words into your life, you are like a smart carpenter who built his house on solid rock. Rain poured down, the river flooded, a tornado hit--but nothing moved that house. It was fixed to the rock. "But if you just use my words in Bible studies and don't work them into your life, you are like a stupid carpenter who built his house on the sandy beach. When a storm rolled in and the waves came up, it collapsed like a house of cards."
(Matthew 7:23-27)
A firm foundation is not haphazardly constructed.
A house is as strong as its foundation. And so are we. Everything we are and everything we do (our character/reputation/relationships/career/spare time/beliefs/purpose/usefulness/eternal value) depends on our foundation. If we are placing our trust in Jesus Christ and have committed ourselves to living out what we read in His Word, our faith and obedience will begin to affect everything in our lives...our daily decisions and our outlook. And as we read God's Word, we fall more and more in love with Christ and grow in oneness with Him. Then, when the storms come (and they will), we find that He is our strength and our refuge, a perfectly solid Rock.
Let's get to work. Rain clouds are forming.
