SEEK YE FIRST....

I am always inspired by the members of our class, including my husband. On Sunday we looked at Matthew 6:25-34, in which Jesus says, Do not be anxious for your life, what you shall eat, or what you shall drink; nor for your body, what you shall put on. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothing?
One of the definitions for the word used for anxious [meteorizo) is: to waver or fluctuate in the mind; to agitate or harass with cares; to make anxious. This definition is taken from a metaphor used to describe ships that are tossed about on the deep by winds and waves.
As we were considering what it means to fluctuate and be tossed about rather than anchored in our faith, I asked Mike, who spent more than a quarter of a decade on the seas, to describe a storm-tossed ship. This is what he said: A ship lies dormant until it is affected by external forces.
Whoa. The lesson was taught in less than a dozen words.
Seek the Lord first. He is our Anchor. He is our Refuge. He is our Rock. He is our very present and eternal security. Yes, life is more than things. Life is Jesus Christ. Don't be anxious...
